SOUNDING[S] :: GP Metals

ivonMark

Monday 16th February 2015 – ivon oates, Mandy Rathbone and Mark Hewitt exploring the dynamic potential of sounds at GP Metals, Dorset.

Scrapyard

We three are pilgrims.
Here to sound out
The tangles of metal
In respectful reliquaries.

In the dark heart of the hollow drum
Booms echo-thunder

We three are interrogators
Here to extract
The stained shrieks of steel
And the soiled moans of rusty iron

In the dark heart of the hollow drum
Booms echo-thunder

Through meaty earth thrust worm-wires
Where rivets lie in fossil beds
And mosaics of milky-green glass:
Tossed dice upon algae baize.

In the dark heart of the hollow drum
Booms echo-thunder

The wind-wall shifts
And bursting upon the ear
A brown bustle of hedge-chatter
Trills the cold bright air

In the dark heart of the hollow drum
Booms echo-thunder

Crow-heckled
We take our leave
With relics packed in plastic bags
Stowed safely in the boot.

In the dark heart of the hollow drum
Booms echo-thunder

From a distant hill little visions
Of tiny mechanicals
Embrace new bodies
For rituals of butchery and harvest.

Unravelling a final reckoning
The hazy confessions:
Carried upon the breeze the
Faint whisperings of their martyrdom.
